Woodpeckers around here are pretty sneaky.  They hide from the camera.

Squirrels will hide nuts just about anywhere.

Goldfinches should be in the Olympics.

I think he might want a little privacy.

Getting ready for takeoff.

Please let me out!

My very small garden helper.

Another one bites the dust.  Thanks, Ollie!

He approves of the new feeder.

Strangest hummingbird I have ever seen.

Our entertainment for about an hour.

sneak attack

just sunning

I am so glad that the goldfinches showed up.

Mom, they are splashing me!

This nasty little critter and all his friends have destroyed our cucumbers.

Friend or foe, I don't know.

We have tons of cardinals.

A bluebird family.

Lots of Purple finches.

And the most beautiful red-headed woodpecker.

Some Of Our Backyard Bird Friends

. .

I'd love to say that this is a swallowtail but I am not sure.

Ollie found an injured baby bird.

I keep finding these pesky bird eggs in the bluebird box.  Nope. Not happening on my watch.

Things That Fly

the backyard

. Saturday, March 2, 2024 .

Way back in the early part of the Wammyville year, in the fall, Adi found this beautiful creature.  We put it in our fancy bug keeper with food, sticks, and water.  Then we hoped for the best.

I got this pic from Google because I couldn't find the pic we took on the day of the find.

We waited and waited for something to happen. One day the caterpillar was gone.  We couldn't find any escape routes. When we dug deeper we found that it had made a cocoon securely attached to the bottom of the container.

O Wednesday morning I was checking on the tadpole and noticed we had a moth!!!

Those look like owl eyes.

This is what the underneath side looks like.

The moth even has camo that looks just like the leaves.

The cocoon was hard like we had poured Elmer's glue on it.

Look at the small hole where he/she emerged.  We didn't have time to figure that out.  We had to set it free and then protect it from Ollie.

Finally!
